Karlie Guse, 16, was last seen the morning of October 13, 2018, by Melissa Guse, her stepmother, around 5:45 a.m. asleep. Karlie’s father’s and stepmother’s house where she was last seen is located 10 or 12 miles north of Bishop, California in Chalfant. Karlie is described as 5’7, 110 lbs, and dark blonde hair with blue eyes. According to witnesses, Karlie was wearing a white t- shirt and gray sweatpants. Today May 13, 2018, is Karlie’s 17th birthday but today also marks 7 months since she disappeared. Please, if you have any tips on Karlie Guse’s whereabouts call Mono County Sheriff's Office at 760-932-7549 or The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

On October 12, 2018, Karlie told her parents she was going to, a football game and headed out for the evening. Around 8 p.m. Melissa receives a phone call from Karlie asking her to come pick her up from behind a local trailer park. Melissa stated that Karlie had asked her to stay on the phone with her but the phone call dropped. Once Melissa got in contact with Karlie again, she said she was now running down a road with her phone in her hands. Melissa pulled onto the road and saw Karlie running down the road. As soon as she pulled up, Karlie jumped into the backseat behind Melissa. Karlie was acting paranoid and scared, according to Melissa. Karlie admitted to Melissa that she went to a party with her boyfriend, Donald, and they had smoked marijuana but once she started getting agitated decided that she needed to leave. Melissa said it took her about 20 minutes to calm her down. Once Karlie and Melissa got home around 9 p.m. Zachary Guse, Karlie’s father, noticed his daughter was acting odd and scared. They ate dinner then went to bed. According to Melissa and Zachary, Karlie was saying really odd things before she went to bed. Melissa even has a recording, that has yet to be made public, of what Karlie was saying. Karlie kept telling them that she was scared and afraid. When her parents asked her why, she just kept saying I don’t know. Karlie asked Melissa to stay the night with her and Melissa did. Around 5:45 a.m. Melissa rolled over and Karlie was still there. Melissa then went back to sleep and woke up around 7:30 and saw Karlie wasn’t there and instantly panicked. She ran into her and Zachary’s room and said to Zachary, “Honey, she’s not here!’ Zachary asked, “What do you mean she’s not here?” Melissa replied, “I said, she’s gone. She’s not in her room. She’s not outside. She’s not in the backyard. She’s not anywhere.” As soon as they noticed her missing, they went to search for her. They searched for 2 hours but they couldn’t find her. They asked if anybody had seen her and 2 of their neighbors said they saw her walking up the road toward Highway 6 around 6:30 a.m. wearing a white t- shirt and gray sweatpants. Another witness said he saw her standing on the side of Highway 6 around 7:30 a.m. All of these sightings have been confirmed by the police. Once they headed home after searching for Karlie, Zachary called Karlie’s biological mother, Lindsay Fairley, to let her know that her daughter was missing. After Fairley received the call, She drove from Nevada to California to aid in the search.

A few days after Karlie disappeared, Melissa Guse done an interview with dateline about Karlie. In her interview she says she slept in her own room and went to say good morning to Karlie when she realized she was gone. This contradicts what she has told everyone else since then. Melissa Guse admitted on her Facebook page that she had given Dateline inaccurate information. When asked why she had lied, her reply was, “Because it was in the beginning, and I didn’t know what to say.” This led people to believe that somehow she was involved in Karlie’s disappearance. Melissa posted on her facebook on March 25, 6 months after the interview with Dateline, admitting she lied to Dateline.

Ever since Karlie disappeared, the Mono County Sheriff's Office has been receiving a lot of calls from people thinking they had seen Karlie. Sheriff Ingrid Braun says, “This remains a missing person investigation. We have a deputy dedicated to this investigation, and we are working the case everyday. The FBI continues to partner with us, and we have also met with the private investigator working with the family. We will not release any details from our investigation unless those details will help locate Karlie.” Another statement from The Mono County Sheriff's Office comes from their Facebook page stating, “We have deployed multiple resources, including helicopters, search dogs, search and rescue teams and off road vehicles, to thoroughly search the surrounding neighborhoods and high-desert terrain. Interviews of family have been conducted, as well as forensic investigation into her social media and electronic devices.” They have been receiving more and more tips coming in ever since the Dr. Phil episode but none of them are promising leads.

Melissa Guse and Zachary Guse had done an interview with Nancy Grace. In her interview, she doesn’t tread lightly. One of her first questions was to Melissa. Nancy asked, “In your Facebook live video you said that Karlie was wearing jeans but every other witness says they saw her in gray sweatpants. What was she really wearing?” Melissa replied, “ I had just assumed because she always has on skinny jeans.” Nancy Grace asked if any of her jeans or sweatpants were gone but Melissa’s reply was just, “I don’t know.” Melissa did tell Nancy that Karlie’s vans shoes were gone the morning she disappeared and also said she believed Karlie was wearing them. Nancy asked the parents if what the boyfriend said was true. Karlie’s boyfriend had said that when he went over there before the police showed up, Karlie’s phone was by the bed but whenever the cops came, the phone was on the kitchen island. Melissa instantly said it wasn’t true, that the cell phone had always been on the kitchen island. Melissa did admit to knowing Karlie’s code for her phone and also admitted that she went into Karlie’s phone before the police had gotten there to see if she had texted or called anybody. Melissa told Nancy that the last communication from Karlie’s phone was to Melissa the night before she disappeared. It was when Karlie had called Melissa to pick her up. When asked if there could have been any kind of forced entry, both the parents said no because they keep their doors unlocked and their dog would have barked and alerted them. The entire interview Melissa kept trying to talk for Zachary but Nancy Grace put a stop to it because it’s important to hear from both parents perspectives.

All three parents of Karlie Guse, have done an interview with Dr. Phil. In Fairley’s interview with Dr. Phil, she tells him that she doesn't think Zach and Melissa are telling the entire truth because Zach admitted that he was drinking the night of her disappearance and was in and out of sleep whenever Fairley had made it from Nevada. Dr. Phil asked Melissa and Zach why he wasn’t allowed to listen to the audio of Karlie they recorded but they responded that they were never asked to show it. Dr. Phil told them there was no way that we didn’t ask to hear it. When asked why again, Zach said, “It’s an ongoing investigation still this is…. Ongoing.” Melissa added, “The FBI have it, the sheriffs have it, it’s not going to, I don’t think it’s going to solves the mystery of where she is.” Melissa finally broke down and said, “You can listen to it but not the rest of the world.”
